Uonotana Street in Akashi, Hyogo is the street of the fish shops. People come here to buy their fish for New Year's dinner.

A great variety is available. Above you see shops for fish paste, octopus, and eel.

The flags advertise the catch. These are the large catch flags.

The most popular fish is the Sea Bream, which is also called Red Snapper in the U. S. It is said to bring good luck.

These are decorations for New Year's. Sending New Year Postcards is also traditional. The post office holds the cards until New Year's and delivers them in a large pack.

Italy and the U.S. also traditionally eat fish, but not on New Year's day. They eat it on New Year's Eve. Here are some Seafood Recipes from our fish store.

Happy New Year!
