There is one week in Japan in early May when many holidays come together. The week is called 'golden week', not because the holidays are "golden", but because of a remark that was made (and then became popular) that it was a golden opportunity to get away for a vacation!

You can see the truth of this in the Daily Yomiuri as the roads show people leaving town. Those who do not leave have a wide variety of things to enjoy also, including the bird show, shopping (or window shopping) at all the best stores, or enjoying the museum. Come along and see!
