In Italian, infiorata means a carpet of flowers. After the Great Hanshin Earthquake, this European-style event started in Kobe aiming to encourage people suffering from the disaster and to revive the city. Marine Pia Kobe, in which there are many factory outlet stores, holds its infiorata May 3–5. Here you can see the preparations underway and all the work it takes to create these amazingly beautiful, but temporary works. Beautiful flower arts can be appreciated at other locations also.
