Welcome!

Today you will be learning about Theme, Character, Plot, and Setting in literature

Some important elements of literature are theme, characterization, plot, and setting. These elements are included in all pieces of fiction, and at higher levels of writing, they become more and more complex.

Theme
The theme of the story is the main message. It is similar to the main idea, however usually more global in scope. Theme is included in almost all fiction, and some non-fiction. Some works of literature that involve themes are: novels, short stories, poems, speeches, essays, drama, and fables.

Character
The character of a story is made of three parts. First, appearance, or the way the character looks. Second, personality, which is how the character thinks or feels. Lastly, behavior, which is way the character acts and reacts. It is always important that the readers of a story are able to picture the characters. Character details such as physical features, clothing, hobbies, clothing, and communication, can provide much about what a character is like.

Plot
Plot is a part of all fictional stories. It is the sequence of events that take place. Plot has five components. First, the conflict from the beginning of the story. Second, rising action, which is all events created by conflict. Third, the climax, the highest point in the story. Fourth, falling action, when the conflict starts unraveling. Finally, resolution, where the conflict becomes resolved.

Setting
The time and place of a story. Setting describes details like location, landscape, time of day, weather, etc.
