The home is the model of Madam Butterfly's house. "In 1898 the short story Madame Butterfly, by lawyer/writer John Luther Long, appeared in the Century Magazine for January. According to Long his sister had met the real Butterfly's grown son, Tom Glover, in Nagasaki. Thomas Blake Glover, a Scottsman, was a merchant. His shipping company later became Mitsubishi Corporation of Japan. Last year there was a drama series on NHK: Ryomaden Thomas Grover was a main character.

Students also visited the shrine dedicated to scholar Michizane Sugawara.
