The Comanche people were an
Indian
tribe in the West.
The Comanche Tribe once lived in
Texas.
The
Comanche
people suffered from a drought and famine. The famine and the
drought were the hardest on the very young and the very
old.
She was one of the few kids that had so far
survived the
famine. The
very
young
and the very old suffered the most from the drought and the
famine.
The shaman spoke to the
Great
Spirits
about how to end the famine and
drought.
The shaman told the people that they had to
make a sacrifice of their most
valued
possession in the village. The shaman told the people that the
ashes must be scattered to the Home of The Winds: the
north,
south, east and west.
Everyone was asleep in their
teepees
except for She-Who-Is-Alone.
The
warrior
doll was the only thing left from her family who died in the
famine. Each member of the family made a part of the
doll
which was so special to her. The juice of berries was used as
paint
for the doll. The feathers on her doll came from the bird who
cried
"Jay-Jay-Jay!"
She-Who-Is Alone thought of her
mother
who made the doll.
She-Who-Is-Alone clutched her doll closely
to her
heart.
She-Who-Is-Alone
knew
she had to give her doll to the spirits.
She-Who-Is-Alone walked
quietly
through the night. She found a fire stick
under
the ashes of the teepee fire. She-Who-Is-Alone made a
sacrifice
for her people. She went out
alone
at night and gave up her doll to the
spirits.
She-Who-Is-Alone scattered the ashes
from her doll to the home of the winds, north, south,
east,
and west.
The people
rejoiced
when a warm rain came.
Zowie!
All the people were excited when they
saw the bluebonnets. The
bluebonnets
appearing on the hill was a sign of forgiveness from the
spirits.
The people changed her name to
She-Who-Dearly-Loved-Her-People.
