Ok, so we've been here for nearly 7 years, and there WAS a bathroom already in the basement - overhead sewers and everything - what was the problem? Well, for one thing, it was a 'charming' baby blue! Then the fact that this tiny space actually housed a toilet, sink, and tub, meant that there wasn't room to turn around once inside. So, almost from the start, we'd decided that we would remove the tub and put in a really nice shower. Builder's Square was going out of business and they had exactly what we wanted: a triangular shaped structure that would fit into the corner, yet was clear glass so that no one inside would feel as if they were in a tomb! You can see, it's lovely and light.

We also purchase at the same time a small sink with a cabinet and a medicine cabinet that was also a 'corner'fitter. There's really no need for us to have storage downstairs, but someone in the future might need such a thing. Besides there did have to be a mirror and the space was small.

Having the supplies and getting everything put in are two completely different and unrelated things...as anyone who does any remodeling knows very well. It didn't take too long to have the tub removed, but it was a couple years after that before we actually had the plumber come and put in the base for the shower. Then...well... the shower wasn't as easy to put in as it looked.

Finally this year, we decided that it was time! We called a handyman who specialized in bathrooms. (and he really likes cats too.) In a couple weeks time he transformed the little hole in the wall into a bright ceremic box with a shower, sink, mirror, etc. Note in the corner here is a 'coat rack' for hanging clothes and a towel basket ready at the foot. On the wall is a green man sculpture created by one of our friends. He's very happy in his new home. You'll have to click on the picture to see it better. Jeffrey is giving the place a final inspection. He approves!
